• Hi guys,

    today we worked on Charles Dickens's longer biography.
    You had to try and remember as much information as possible from his biography.

    Charles Dickens was a British novelist. He was born in 1812 in Portsmouth, England. He moved to London with his family when he was about two years old. The family was very poor and Charles Dickens's father didn't earn enough money to support his wife and his eight children. So, at the age of twelve, Charles had to work ten hours a day in a factory. He couldn't go to school and it was his mother who taught him to read and developed his love for books.

    Later, Dickens started writing and became famous by the age of twenty-four. He married Catherine Hogarth in 1836. They had ten children. But as time went by, they became unhappy and divorced in 1858. During his life, Charles Dickens also found the time to work for organizations to help poor people. He died suddenly in 1870.

    Finally, you had to highlight the verbs in the preterite and classify the ones which are irregular in your charts.

  • Hi guys,

    today we continued to listen to the document we started to study last time (the conversation about the friends' holidays).

    Here is what we said:

    In London, you can go sightseeing and you can visit monuments and museums.

    The document is a conversation between two people.
    They are talking about Madame Tussaud's wax museum.

    Lucy went to the museum with her penfriend. She saw the Royal Family and she took pictures with Queen Elizabeth (the second).
    Her friend kissed Brad Pitt.

    Other celebrities she saw (famous people):

    - King Henry VIII.
    - Camilla (Parker Bowles)
    - Guy Fawkes

    • Irregular verbs
    Infinitive Preterite Past Participle Translation
    go went   aller
    see saw   voir
    take took   prendre
    be was / were   être (auxiliaire)

    Then you had to complete a matching exercise and you underlined the clues that guided you. You can download the document here again:

  • The conversation about the penfriends' holidays in LondonHi guys,

    today we continued talking about Madame Tussaud's museum and some London monuments and sights. We listened to a new document: a conversation between two friends. Here is what you said you could understand:

    The document is a conversation. Lucy is talking about Madame Tussaud's wax museum. In this museum, you can see wax statues with fake accessories
    With her penfriend she went sightseeing in London and they visited the museum.
    In the history section, they saw Henry VIII and the royal family for example.
    In the pop stars section, her penfriend kissed Brad Pitt!

    They enjoyed the visit a lot!

    go -> went
    visit -> visited
    see -> saw
    kiss -> kissed
    enjoy -> enjoyed

  • Hi guys,

    today you had to record your presentation for your final task.
    I'll be listening to you asap.

    At the very end of the lesson we started to reveal a "mystery picture".

    You finally discovered that it was a wax statue of Queen Elizabeth II at Madame Tussaud's museum. Incredible, isn't it?

  • Hi guys,

    today we spoke about a British celebration: Bonfire Night. We watched a video:

    Here is what we said about the video:

    Bonfire Night (history): In 1605, a terrorist (Guy Fawkes) wanted to kill the king. He made a plot but the king didn't die. He was arrested and executed. He was burned.

    Bonfire Night (tradition today): Today, British people celebrate this execution on the 5th of November. Every year, they light a fire, and burn a "guy". They walk in the streets with torches and they watch fireworks.
