• Hello everyone,

Yesterday, we practised for Monday's evaluation.

We worked on a dictation (pour ceux qui auraient oublié, dans votre livret de compétences, il faut valider la pratique d'une langue vivante étrangère. Un des itèmes est : écrire sous la dictée.)

    Here is the text :

The International Mars Society recently held a four-day conference in the American state of Colorado. During the meeting, the American-based Mars Society announced a competition for university students around the world. The group is urging the students to help with plans for sending humans to Mars.

Now, listen to the MP3 and practise again because on Monday, I will pick extracts from this text and evaluate you on it :

  • Hello everyone,

Today was not an extraordinary lesson because no one wanted to participate.

An English class doesn't work this way !

We studied HAD BETTER + BV (forte recommandation) and HAD BETTER NOT TO + BV (vivement déconseillé).

    Let’s remember

Ex : You had (you’d) better not to show disrespect to your teachers.

    HOMEWORK : learn HAD  BETTER (not to) + revise : SHOULD / SHOULDN'T / IF + WOULD.

  • Hello everyone,

Today, we finished talking about advice and we gave three examples :

We should listen to the teacher > recommandation.

People shouldn't eat and drink in the simulator > reproche/quasi-interdiction.

Should I stay with my girlfriend ? > demande de conseil.

    PART 2 :

If I were (prétérit modal)..., I would + BV ...

What if you settled a community on Mars ?

We imagined what we would need to survive on Mars : water, energy, food, accomodation, health, education, hygiene, leisure...

    We wrote some examples :

If I settled a community on Mars, I would search for a source of water.

    I would also plant vegetals.

I would bring cargo in the spacecraft to build houses...

HOMEWORK : learn the lesson about if+would and two examples.

  • Hello everyone,

Today, we started a new lesson.

I presented you an advert and you had to describe it and guess what it was created for :

    New lesson : space exploration.

    This is the lesson :

                                                                  Friday, January 17th
                                                                                 (the seventeenth)

                               An advert for JPL.

I could see a man who had stars in his hair so, we supposed that he was a model, a hairdresser or maybe an astronaut.
Indeed, stars symbolize space and the galaxy.

-> What does JPL mean / stand for ?
We thought JPL was a name.
Actually, it stands for Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
JPL create machines to go to space/to explore/to conquer space.

It is located in the USA, in the state of California and in the city of Pasadena.

Homework : learn the new vocabulary
