• Hello everyone,

During the last lessons, we started preparing a new subject for "histoire des arts".

First, we played a game about Andy Warhol's life : play it again here :

    http://www.qagoma.qld.gov.au/kids/games_for_kids

We wrote a lesson about him :

    ANDY WARHOL'S LIFE

    1) Andy's childhood :
He was born in the USA but his family came from Slovakia. When he was a child, he wanted to become a tap dancer but he studied art and painting.
    2) His commercial carrer as an artist.
Warhol created blotted-ink drawings with ink, paper and paintbrushes.
    3) The Factory : Warhol created pop art (=pop stars/pop music). Pop means "popular".
He painted ordinary objects from supermarkets as for example bottles of Coca Cola. He made 650 films.
He painted portraits of stars as Marilyn Monroe.
He appeared in a famous TV show : Love Boat.

During the next lesson, you had to listen to information on the MP3 players and to fill in a document (capsule 1, 2, 3, 4).

To finish you had to exchange information with your partners.

We corrected that on the board.

We continued working on Warhol's life with a document in which you had to write verbs in the preterit.

HOMEWORK for Friday 11th : finish completing the document with verbs in the preterit.

  • Hello everyone,

This week, we first had a listening test about a 911 call.

Then, we started preparing the final task which is a role play.

We are going to act a scene including a crime, an investigation and a resolution.

We divided the class in two groups.

In each group, every person has a role.

The roles are : Mrs Meyers, the detective, the forensic, the 911 dispatcher, Mr Brooks (Mr Meyer's boss), Karen or Kevin (Mr Brooks child).

    This is the situation :

Mrs Meyers calls 911 because she found her husband lying dead in the kitchen.

The detective comes on the crime scene, asks questions to Mrs Meyers and collects the clues and fingerprints.

The forensic autopsies the corpse and gives the results to the detective.

The detective interrogates Mr Brooks who had an argument with the victim.

Mr Brooks says he was shopping with his child.

At the end, we are at the police station. This is the resolution of the crime.

First, the detective interrogates Mr Brooks's child (Karen or Kevin) and he/she says that he/she was shopping withj his/her dad (evidence : parking ticket + receipt).

Mrs Meyers is suspect number one. She contests first, and then she admits that she killed her husband because he cheated on her with his secretary (Mr Brooks's wife) !

    Planning :

Monday 31st : English test (tout revoir depuis le début de "detectives", vocabulaire, voie passive...)

Tuesday 1st April : Oral : final task.

  • Hello everyone,

Today, we worked on a text.

We presented it, we found all the crime vocabulary and we found the important information for a detective/a private eye.

An extract from the NY Times

This document is an extract from the magazine entitled the New York Times.

It was published on the 8th of April, 2007.

This article is entitled : "Woman's body under Bronx bridge".

Then, I asked you to re-write the text with different information.

Homework : rewrite the first two lines and learn the lesson (25/02/2014)

  • Hello everyone,

Today, we listened to a phone call. We heard a man who was panic stricken / afraid / shocked / frightened / scared / terrified and who called 911.

911 is a phone number for emergency situations used in North America (Canada and the USA).

Then, we listed the key words.

After that, we found the questions asked by the 911 dispatcher.

Finally, we answered the questions (name, address, problem, number of people)

Homework : revise all the vocabulary concerning crime (revoir tout le vocabulaire concernant le crime, depuis le début de la séquence)

  • Hello everyone,

Last time, we worked on a new document : the cover of a magazine, the New Yorker.

We presented the document, then, we imagined what the woman was looking at.

We made suppositions with : MAY + BV

                                             Tuesday, February 11th
                                                             (the eleventh)

                          THE NEW YORKER

This document is the cover of a magazine entitled/named The New Yorker.

It was published on the 22nd and the 29th of December, 1997 (on 22&29, Dec. 1997).
It costs $3.50 (three dollars fifty).

On the cover, we can see a quite young blond and sexy/attractive/pretty woman.

In the background, we can see a Christmas tree, two red socks above a fireplace.

This woman is suprised/shocked/afraid because she might be looking a crime scene, at Santa who is dead or at open presents.

Then, we learnt how to describe a picture or a photo : in the background, in the foreground, on the left, on the right, at the top, at the bottom, in the middle, in the top right-hand corner, in the bottom left-hand corner.

Homework : learn the important information from the lesson + photo description.
