• She was the first black girl to go to a black school.
A federal policeman came to her house and escorted the family to school.
He gave her advice because there was a hateful / racist / violent demonstration.
People had crual placards with "White Only" or "No Coloreds here".
The parents in the school were shocked. They took they children away.
The director and secretary were disgusted when Ruby arrived and when she wanted to go to the washroom.

At the end of the day, Ruby was both happy and disappointed because people were horrible and she didn't learn anything.

  • The movie extracts:

People are demonstrating in front of a building with placards.
    They are very angry.
    Maybe it's a school:
       * The director closed the school
       * The director is a murderer
       * The food was poisoned at the canteen
       * The teachers are not professional
       * The teachers were not paid
       * Children were hit by some teachers

    -> There are many policemen

    Hypotheses:

  • -> The mother of Jamal died violently.
When the children ran* away, they saw* a girl with the costume of God Rama. It was* probably "Diwali", a hindu festival of lights and colours.
Jamal remembers this episode because it was* a happy moment and the most tragic episode in his life.

-> Jamal was* sleeping in a slum when a man arrived and gave* him coca-cola. He was* rescued but in fact, it was* a trap. In the end, his brother saved his life.

  • Why is this scene important for the main character / JAMAL?

    The scene is important because....

his brother blocked him in the toilet when Amitabh Bachchan (his favorite idol) came* in his street / slum.
Jamal jumped in the poop and he lost his dignity.
He ran* to meet the actor who signed his autograph.
His brother sold* his autograph for very little money.

It was* a traumatic moment but also the happiest moment in his life.
