Asking for an allowance: the dad's decision

What is an allowance?

An allowance is pocket money. You have money every week. It's a sort of salary but you don't work.

The dad accepts when the family asks for money but he doesn't accept for Chris; it's expensive.

The family is shocked because it's expensive (they're poor) and Chris wants money but he doesn't want to work.

- The sister asks for $15 to visit the statue of Liberty.

- The brother asks for $5 to go to the cinema

- The mother asks for $25 to shop.

Monday, May 7^th

The leather jacket

The scene takes place in Brooklyn (a neighbourhood / a borough)

Chris is 13 years old, he is a teenager but he looks like 5 years old.

He dreams about a leather jacket but he doesn't have money because his family is poor.

For him, to have a leather jacket is cool / stylish / fashionable.

He walks in the street, he meets a girl and they talk about the leather jacket.

He wants to look like a model and he likes posing.

Possibilities:

He may ask money to buy the leather jacket.

He may work and find a summer job.

He may beg in the street. (!)

Presentation of the series

The document is a poster of a funny series.

It is a biography inspired by Chris Rock's life when he was a kid.

It's about the childhood of Chris Rock, the creator of the series.

The colors of the poster are flashy. They don't match. The T-shirt of Chris is ugly because the colors are not beautiful.

He just has one friend and his family. But everybody says he has no style. Everybody picks on him, at school and at home because he is not stylish / fashionable.

Coca-cola ad / commercial

I like this commercial because it's a good idea, it connects people with their families but I don't like the intention.

They just want to make money.

The dangers of social media in the ad:

- You can lose your social life because you are on your phone all the time and not with your friends.

- You can't see your surroundings. For example you can fall.

- You can be addicted and lose your family life. It separates you from your friends.
