    The phone conversation

The document is a phone conversation between a mom and her son about Australia.

The son is very enthusiastic because…:

    - he has visited a lot of things.

    - he has discovered gigantic monuments.

    - he has met* aboriginal artists.

    - he has seen* the most beautiful cities in Australia.

    - he has been* to the Opera House.

Contrary to the son, his mother is sleepy because there is a big time difference.

    Positive emotions:

    fantastic / terrific / great / the coolest … /

    the most beautiful … / …

    Monday, June 17th (the seventeenth)

    Extract three: Surdas

Jamal and Salim are orphans and homeless, they sleep in the slums. One day, a man traps/lures them with a coke and takes them to an « orphanage ».

Many children are blind and crippled because the men hurt them so they inspire pity and thus earn more money when they beg in the streets.

One night, Salim witnesses a dramatic incident : the boy who sang very well was blinded so that people would think he was the reincarnation of Surdas, the blind poet of the fifteenth century.

Extract4 : Salim knew about Benjamin Franklin because one day he met/ran into his blind friend and he felt so guilty and shameful that he gave him his $100 bill. He had to describe the dollar bill for his friend.

For Thursday 20/06 : apprendre la leçon.

The similarities and differences between the movie and the book

    The similarities:

    • In the book and in the movie, the Once-Ler lives outside of town.

    • In the book and in the movie, Ted has the correct price.

    • In the book and in the movie, there is a pail with a rope.

    • The atmosphere is dark, gloomy and scary because it’s midnight.

    • In both versions, the Once-Ler peeks out from the shutters.

    The differences:

    • In the book, you must put the proper price in the pail whereas in the movie, Ted doesn’t and the Once-Ler doesn’t care.

    • In the book, you mustn’t knock at the door while Ted rings the doorbell and there is a trap.

    Homework for Wednesday 19th:

    - être capable de parler des similarités et des différences entre livre et film.
