The vicious circle in Whitechapel

There was a vicious circle in Whitechapel.

There were 76.000 (seventy-six thousand) inhabitants in the neighbourhood and 1.200 (one thousand two hundred) prostitutes.

So the district was over-populated.

Consequently, people were 7 or 8 occupants per room. They were horrific and unhealthy conditions.

So many people died of diseases and starvation.

→ There was more crime.

The job interview

So it's a problem because she doesn't know about fashion.

She is not skinny or glamorous.

She has no style and she is not fashionable.

However she works hard and she is smart: she learns fast.

She is always smiling. She is courageous, patient and ambitious.

She is not scared of Miranda.

She has the experiences to become a good journalist:

- She has been* editor in chief.

- She has studied at university.

- She has participated in competitions and she has won*.

- She has written* many articles.

Tidy is the contrary of messy.

Bright is the contrary of dark.

Clean is the contrary of dirty.

Quiet is the contrary of noisy.

What really happened to the trees?

The document is an extract from an animated movie.

In the scene, the family is eating in the living-room at night.

At the beginning, the mom says: “don't play with your food!” because the grand-ma and the son are playing.

The son asks: “What happened to the real trees?” and the grand-ma answers Ted must find the Once-Ler, he will tell him everything.

→ In the future, trees will not be real. They will be electronic and they will have a remote for the seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter).
