In 1888, it was Victorian times. Queen Victoria reigned at that time for fifty years.
London was the largest and richest capital city in the world, but Whitechapel was a destitute, crime-ridden and sordid district.
Life was a daily battle to survive in Whitechapel.
At that time, Jack the Ripper murdered prostitutes and that caused a huge scandal.
There were 1200 prostitutes in Whitechapel. They worked in brothels and in unlit alleys.
