Two actions
The dodger was stealing a handkerchief when the shopkeeper called the police.
Oliver was running when the police arrested / caught* him.
The judge was punishing Oliver when the shopkeeper arrived in court.
The shopkeeper was saying “it's not the pickpocket” when Oliver fainted.

The contrasts in this scene
The directors had* much food whereas the children had little food. So Oliver Twist asked more food.
The children were* skinny whereas the director was* fat.
Roman Polanski changed the angle of the camera to see the importance of the characters.
For example, the director is filmed in a high angle whereas the children are filmed in a low angle.
I think this situation is cruel, unfair, and shocking.
