Hello!

Today, you watched another scene from Oliver Twist. We studied the different actions:

Two boys stole* a handkerchief from an old man. Oliver Twist ran* away because he was* scared. Everybody was running after him when someone hit* him in the face. The police brought* him to the police station. The judge was asking him questions when Oliver fainted on the floor. Then, the shopkeeper entered the room and said* Oliver was* innocent.

Le prétérit BE+ -ING sert souvent à la description d'une action qui est en cours de déroulement dans le passé et qui est interrompue par un autre événement (qui est lui décrit au prétérit simple).

Homework for Thursday, January 5th:

connaître les verbes de la ceinture jaune (sans oublier la blanche au passage),
compléter la fiche d'exercices sur le preterit BE + ING et le preterit simple.
revoir l'ensemble de la séquence 3 en vue du test la semaine suivante.
