The prison workhouse
The atmosphere in the scene is sinister, creepy and gloomy.
The workhouse looks like a prison or a haunted castle.
In this very strict Christian orphanage, the orphans must pray every day, they must work like slaves and they eat a disgusting gruel. The beds in the dormitory look like coffins.
One day, Oliver asks for more soup and the punishment is he will be hanged. It isn’t fair at all.
The rich old men are eating like kings whereas the children are always hungry.
