Child labour in Victorian times
Before 1842, children could work in coal mines.
In 1842, there was a law. After this law, they couldn’t work in coal mines anymore.
After 1880, children had to go to school until ten. After ten years old, school was not compulsory. Children could leave school after ten.
Children worked in the country (in the fields), in the streets (in open markets), in coal mines, in factories.
