Oliver Twist, the movie - 1st scene

Hi guys,

today after making a quick recap of last time's lesson, we began to study an extract from the movie Oliver Twist by Roman Polanski. We analysed the symbols and the camera shots (angles / points of view).

Here is what we said:

The scene is in an orphanage.
Oliver Twist is going to this workhouse.
It looks like a prison / Hell because it's dark and gloomy.
Oliver looks small whereas the boss looks very big.
The boy is afraid because he is alone whereas the supervisors are many.

Vocabulary:

paralysed / scared
top hat -> cap
strong -> weak
tall -> small
superior -> inferior
powerful -> powerless

Homework:

- apprendre par COEUR les deux dernières leçons. Si un élève ne sait pas répondre à mes questions en début d'heure => devoir dans la foulée! Vous devez être capable de parler de l'histoire d'Oliver Twist et de son ressenti lorsqu'il arrive à l'orphelinat. Vous devez être capable de faire des phrases en utilisant WHEREAS (sert à opposer deux phrases et à montrer la stricte opposition entre deux choses).
