Why do British people wear a poppy for remembrance day ?

A poppy is very fragile : this flower doesn’t last very long. It grows in autumn and after the end of the first world war, there were thousands of them everywhere in the battlefields and in the trenches. Moreover this flower is bright red, which represents the blood of the people who died or were wounded (hurt) during the conflict.

In England people buy poppies (for one pound in general) and their money goes to the families of the people who died/were injured or those who are veterans.

Every year, at 11 o’clock, on November 11th, people stay/remain silent for one minute in order to remember all those who died at war. They wear their poppies with pride/they are proud of their country.
