What were the obligations of
Black people in the USA ?
Had to +BV= obligation au passé
Couldn’t + BV = c’était impossible, interdit (au passé.)
In the past, Black people had to use separate water fountains. They couldn’t use drink from the same water fountains.
On the bus, Black people had to sit at the back, they couldn’t sit at the front. (it was forbidden).
Black people had to sleep in different hotels, they couldn’t sleep in the same hotels as White people.
