Last lesson, we finished working on the different aspects of the Indian culture.
Monday, April 3rd (the third)
E. Bollywood
It is the mix of two words Bombay+ Hollywood, it is a term used for the film industry in India. The films are all made/shot in Mumbai, in Hindi.
In typical bollywood movies,
-you will have: Traditional Indian clothes
-Typical stories: kidnappings, siblings separated at birth, family problems, love stories...
-A lot of singing and dancing.
-They are very long (about 3 hours)
In Bollywood films, actors can't kiss/kissing is forbidden (=censored)
Landmarks
-The Taj Mahal was built near Agra around 1632 by a muslim emperor for his wife.
-The most famous Indian Mosque is called Jama Masjid, it is located in New Delhi.
-The India Gate is the monument which looks like the French “Arc of Triumph”, on both sides of the walls you can read the names of the people who died at war. It's a memorial.
-The Lotus temple is a recent monument (it was finished in 1986), it was made so that all religions could gather (=se rassembler → together= ensemble)/ it is open to all religions for meditation. It has 9 doors and 9 pools (=bassins), and 27 petals like the lotus flower, it symbolizes purity.
-Hampi is a city in the south of India, it is in the Karnataka region. Hampi is a very old village where you can find many Hindu temples/ruins.
