Monday, April 25th (the twenty-fifth)

Hello,

Today, we talked about obligations and interdictions in the past.

Obligations and interdictions at school in the 19th century:

Before school was not compulsory whereas now, it’s compulsory until 16 in France.

Before parents had to pay to send their children to school whereas now, school is free in France.

Before girls and boys had to wear a uniform whereas now, in France we can wear normal everyday clothes.

Now, education is less strict than in the past.

Before, boys couldn’t see girls at school, because they were separated. Now, boys and girls are together in the same classroom!

Before, children couldn’t write with their left hand. If they did, the teachers could hit them!
