Lesson # 2 - Whitechapel (3)

Correction of the worksheet about the text (pages 1 & 2) + recap in English of what you knew.

You had to write a little text about the situation during Victorian times in London.

Whitechapel was a poor neighbourhood in London. The other name of Whitechapel was "the East End". During Victorian times, in the 1880's, Jack the Ripper stabbed many prostitutes to death in dark streets or unlit alleys.
The neighbourhood of Whitechapel was very poor: it was over-populated with dirty squalid apartments, poor drainage and inadequate sanitation. The population was employed in factory work with meager earnings and harsh condictions that forced many women to become prostitutes to survive.

Then we started to watch a documentary about Whitechapel at the time.
