Dr Watson is quiet whereas Sherlock Holmes is generally talkative but, at times, when he works, he occasionally doesn't open his mouth for days.
Sherlock is sulky.
Dr Watson is nervous and he always gets up at all sorts of ungodly hours.
Dr Watson likes smoking like Sherlock.
He is curious like Sherlock but he is extremely lazy.
=> They have a lot of shortcomings. They don't have the same personality but they are a good match. It's not a problem to be different and to have defects. They laugh about it.
