When Jamal was a child, Amitabh Bachchan came to his village, but his brother Salim locked him in the toilets and he had to jump into poop to escape and get an autograph.
Later, Salim sold the photo for two rupees.
Jamal felt sad and deceived because his brother betrayed him.

Jamal knew what God Rama looked like because when he was a child he was attacked by hindus.
He was playing in the water with his brother and his mother was washing clothes when she noticed a group of violent rioters. They escaped and ran into a young girl dressed as God Rama. This day, his mother was killed : it was traumatising.
