today we worked on a text about child work in the 19th century in England.

Child Labour in Victorian Times

Here is what you said about it:

* Before 1842, children could work in coal mines. After 1842, there was a law. They couldn't work in mines anymore.

* After 1880, children had to go to school until 10 years old. They could leave school at 10. It wasn't compulsory after 10.

* Children worked in mines, mills, factories, on open markets, in the country, in the fields, ...

-> OBLIGATION IN THE PAST = HAD TO + V
