The children were working when Oliver arrived.
They were sleeping when a child started to walk in the dormitory.
Everybody was eating when Oliver asked for more food.
Oliver was asking for more food when the old man started to chase him.
The rich men were eating when they stopped and gasped at the news.
The boss was eating when he said: "this boy will be hanged!"
